The Music & Drama Education Expo

After writing numerous articles for the Music Teacher Magazine I was delighted to be invited to the Music & Drama Expo in London. I was tasked with hosting a panel with two fellow curriculum enthusiasts and asking various questions surrounding the development of the curriculum.

I was worried that it would be poorly attended due to it being the final session of the expo but we were very lucky that it was an incredibly busy session with lots of important and great questions being explored.

It was an absolute pleasure to work and talk with Liz Dunbar and Kyle McIniis who offered incredible insight into their curriculum design and development.

Below is the structure of the panel and the questions explored:

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the question, ‘What makes an effective KS3 curriculum?’

  • Consider how student voice might play a part in curriculum design

  • Consider fresh ideas for designing an inspiring, progressive, and inclusive Key Stage 3 curriculum

  • Discuss the need for an adaptable music curriculum

  • Understand how a KS3 curriculum can impact music uptake at KS4.
